About Sarah King

Through my process led practice I currently use a mix of contemporary and traditional mediums of film, sound and stitch work.
I collect and use elements from my daily life.
Through exploration I focus on my roles, daily rhythms and ritualistic chores as a woman and mother.
Basically the dirt and hard graft.
I am interested in what is left behind; by this I mean the dust, the stains, the detritus of life.
These elements are created by everyone, everywhere.
It is common ground we all make muck.
Through my collection of these elements in my daily life, a poetic narrative occurs, a lived history is shared.
I see dirt as a metaphor for pain and trauma in life and have used cleansing and washing as a vehicle to explore this. We can wash and clean but some stains are so stubborn and penetrated so deeply that they are with us for life, no matter how hard we scrub.
